Where is it used and when is it required?
Fixed to triple-packaged specimens, drums and containers, on the doors of chemical stores and medical-waste depots, in warehouses in industrial cities and healthcare facilities, on vehicles moving samples and hazardous waste, and in microbiology and analysis laboratories.
Regulation notes
GHS, the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals, is the classification system adopted across the Gulf, and the placard's colours, symbol and class number all derive from it. Placarding stores, containers and vehicles is the expected practice in Saudi and UAE industrial and healthcare zones whenever dangerous goods are stored or moved.
- The usual placard size on vehicles and containers is 250 × 250 mm; a 100 × 100 mm label is enough on a specimen outer package or a waste bin.
- Print on a weatherproof, UV-resistant material whose ink survives alcohol disinfection.
- Keep the class number "6.2" at the bottom corner readable next to the biohazard symbol — do not rely on the symbol alone.
