organic peroxide placard
Class 5.2 is for thermally unstable organic peroxides such as benzoyl peroxide and dicumyl peroxide, used as hardeners for resins and in polymer work. The diamond — red on top, yellow below, with the flame symbol — means heat or shock can trigger a rapid decomposition accompanied by fire, which is why these goods are kept refrigerated.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Fixed to packages, drums and refrigerated containers, on the doors of chemical stores and resin and fibreglass stores, in warehouses in industrial cities, on trucks carrying dangerous goods, and in laboratories and polymer plants.
Regulation notes
GHS, the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals, is the classification system adopted across the Gulf, and the placard's colours, symbol and class number all derive from it. Placarding stores, containers and vehicles is the expected practice in Saudi and UAE industrial zones whenever dangerous goods are stored or moved.
- The usual placard size on trucks and refrigerated containers is 250 × 250 mm; a 100 × 100 mm label is enough on a single package.
- Choose a weatherproof, UV-resistant material whose adhesive survives condensation inside chilled rooms.
- Keep the class number "5.2" at the bottom corner readable — it is what separates an organic peroxide from a plain 5.1 oxidizer.
