general warning sign
A warning (yellow) sign used when no specific ISO symbol describes the hazard closely enough. The exclamation mark inside a yellow triangle with a black border is ISO 7010 W001 and means 'take care, there is a hazard here'; it only does its job when a line of text names the hazard.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Placed at the entrance to areas with mixed or temporary hazards: maintenance work, floors left wet after cleaning, loading bays behind shops, warehouses and plant rooms. Civil Defense inspectors expect it wherever a visible hazard is not already covered by a more specific sign.
Regulation notes
Civil Defense inspectors in Saudi Arabia and the UAE expect every visible hazard inside a facility to carry a clear warning sign when an operating licence is issued or renewed, and missing warning signage is a common reason for a delayed approval. In the UAE, OSHAD Code of Practice 17.0 requires Arabic to sit above English on safety signs.
- Mount at eye level (1.5–1.7 m) at the entrance to the hazardous area rather than inside it, so people read it before they step in.
- A4 is enough indoors and in corridors; use A3 at site entrances and wherever it has to be read from a distance.
- Add a line under the triangle naming the hazard — 'wet floor', 'maintenance in progress' — and take temporary signs down as soon as the hazard clears, so staff never learn to ignore them.
