A prohibition sign telling visitors and customers that this area is off-limits to anyone not authorised. The red circle and diagonal bar over a walking figure are the ISO 7010 symbol for no thoroughfare.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Fixed on the doors of stockrooms, electrical and machine rooms, back kitchens and admin offices in shops, restaurants and malls, and on the outside of emergency doors so they are not used as an entrance. Civil Defense expects hazard and storage areas to be clearly separated from customer routes.
Regulation notes
Civil Defense in Saudi Arabia and the UAE expects storage, service and hazard areas to be separated from public routes with clear prohibition signs, and checks this when licensing shops and restaurants. In the UAE, OSHAD Code of Practice 17.0 requires Arabic to appear above English on safety signs.
- Fix it on the door itself at eye level (1.5–1.7 m), not on the adjacent wall, so it is clear the ban applies to this door.
- Use A4 for internal doors and A3 for site gates and loading-bay entrances.
- You can add your business name or 'Staff only' under the sign, but keep the pictogram and colours unchanged.
