A prohibition sign telling everyone that smoking is not allowed here. The red circle with a diagonal bar is the standard prohibition shape under ISO 7010; the pictogram shows a lit cigarette.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Required at the entrances of shops, restaurants, offices and warehouses, and near flammable materials and fuel stations. Civil Defense requires it in enclosed spaces and at hazardous-material stores.
Regulation notes
A No Smoking sign is part of the Civil Defense licensing requirements for shops, restaurants and offices in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, alongside the anti-tobacco regulations that require the ban to be posted in enclosed public places. In the UAE, OSHAD Code of Practice 17.0 requires Arabic to appear above English on safety signs.
- Mount at 1.5–1.7 m from the floor, at eye level.
- Use at least A4 for main entrances.
- Do not change the colours; red and black on white are part of the standard.
