fire extinguisher sign
A fire-equipment (red) sign that pinpoints where a fire extinguisher is kept, so anyone can find it within seconds when a fire breaks out. The red square is the ISO 7010 shape for fire-fighting equipment; the pictogram shows an extinguisher with flames.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Required above or beside every extinguisher in shops, restaurants, offices, warehouses and workshops. Civil Defense inspectors check that each extinguisher is visible, tagged with a sign readable from a distance, and reachable within roughly 23 m from any point in most premises.
Regulation notes
The fire extinguisher sign is a basic Civil Defense requirement in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and inspectors confirm one is mounted above every certified extinguisher before a safety licence is issued or renewed. In the UAE, OSHAD Code of Practice 17.0 requires Arabic to appear above English on safety signs.
- Mount directly above the extinguisher at 1.8–2.0 m so it stays visible over heads and shelving.
- A4 suits ordinary corridors; use A3 in warehouses and large halls.
- Keep the red background; under the standard, red is reserved for fire-fighting equipment signs only.

Choose the size from the maximum distance the sign must be read from (ISO 3864-1 guidance).
