fire equipment sign
A fire-equipment (red) sign marking a place where several fire-fighting items are kept together: a hose-reel cabinet, a fire blanket, a set of extinguishers or a full fire point. The pictogram, flames above a box, is the ISO 7010 generic symbol for fire equipment, used where the extinguisher sign alone is not enough.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Mounted above fire-hose cabinets, hydrant boxes and fire corners in malls, warehouses, factories and car parks. Civil Defense requires every fire point to carry a clear sign so it is never hidden behind stock or turned into storage.
Regulation notes
Civil Defense in Saudi Arabia and the UAE requires fire points and hose cabinets to be clearly signed and kept unobstructed, and checks this during periodic inspections and safety-licence renewals. In the UAE, OSHAD Code of Practice 17.0 requires Arabic above English on safety signs.
- Mount above the cabinet or corner at 1.8–2.0 m; add an arrow if the equipment sits round a corner.
- Use A3 in warehouses and car parks where the sign is read from far away.
- Reserve this sign for grouped equipment; a single extinguisher gets its own Fire Extinguisher sign.
Size guide
Choose the size from the maximum distance the sign must be read from (ISO 3864-1 guidance).
