What does this sign mean?
Class 2.1 covers gases that ignite when mixed with air, propane, butane, LPG cooking gas, acetylene and hydrogen. The red diamond with the flame symbol means that a spark or open flame near a leaking cylinder can start an immediate fire, or an explosion in an enclosed space.
Where does it go and when is it required?
Fixed to gas cylinders, drums and containers, on the doors of gas and chemical stores, in warehouses in industrial cities such as Jubail and Jebel Ali, on LPG tankers and delivery trucks, and in laboratories that run fuel gas.
Regulation notes: GHS, the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals, is the classification system adopted across the Gulf, and the placard's colours, symbol and class number all derive from it. Placarding stores, containers and vehicles is the expected practice in Saudi and UAE industrial zones whenever dangerous goods are stored or moved.
- The usual placard size on trucks, tankers and containers is 250 × 250 mm; a 100 × 100 mm label is enough on a single cylinder.
- Choose a weatherproof, UV-resistant material, colours fade fast in open storage yards.
- Keep the class number "2.1" at the bottom corner readable; do not hide it behind the cylinder valve or its cap.
