What does this sign mean?
The du‘a said after leaving the toilet: 'Ghufranak', meaning 'I seek Your forgiveness, O Allah', the shortest du‘a of the sunnah and the one repeated most often in a day. The sign shows the word with full vowel marks and the English translation, and its citation (Sunan Abi Dawud 30 and Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi 7) is printed on the sign and on its page.
Where does it go and when is it required?
Mounted at the exit of the restroom corridor or above the wash basins on the wall facing people as they leave, so it reads on the way out rather than on the way in; it is better not to hang it inside the toilet itself, out of respect for the mention of Allah. It pairs with the Entering the Restroom du‘a as a matching set: one before the door, one after it.
- Mount at eye height (1.5–1.7 m) at the exit of the restroom corridor or above the basins where worshippers stop to wash their hands.
- A5 is enough beside the door; use A4 above the basins or at the corridor exit.
- Print on a water-resistant material, and keep the Arabic word large and vowelled with the citation printed under it, as shown in the preview.
