wudu area sign
A direction sign pointing to the wudu (ablution) room so newcomers can find it from any entrance without asking. The pictogram of a tap and hands is understood in any language, which is why this sign carries three: Arabic, English and Urdu.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Mounted above the wudu-room door and along the corridors leading to it from the courtyard and the prayer hall, plus at the main entrance with an arrow. In large masajid and community centres repeat it at every fork in the corridor, since the wudu area is often on the ground floor or in the basement, far from the front doors.
- Mount at 1.8–2.0 m above the door or at the start of the corridor, with a clear arrow on any sign that is not right at the room.
- A4 is enough directly above the door; use A3 at the main entrance and in courtyards.
- In South-Asian-majority masajid in the UK, US and Canada the Urdu line saves older worshippers from having to ask; if your congregation is different, drop the third line and keep the sign uncluttered.
