A direction sign showing which way the Kaaba lies, so anyone praying can face the qibla with confidence without asking around or opening an app. The arrow is the whole point: confirm the bearing with a compass or a reliable app before mounting, then hang the sign so the arrow really points towards Makkah.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Mounted in prayer rooms inside hotels, hospitals, airports, offices and shopping centres, where there is no mihrab to give the direction, and in mosques on the walls of side halls, courtyards and the women’s hall that may not have a direct view of the mihrab.
- Mount at 1.6–1.8 m, eye level, or on the ceiling above the first row in large prayer rooms.
- A4 is enough for a small prayer room; use A3 in halls that people enter from several doors.
- For masajid in the West, print the bearing in degrees from true north under the English text (about 58° in New York, 119° in London); it helps anyone checking with a phone compass.
