A reminder to switch phones off or to silent before entering the prayer hall, so a ringtone never breaks the congregation’s concentration or interrupts the Friday khutbah. The pictogram shows a phone with a bar through it, and it works best at a spot where everyone pauses for a moment, such as the shoe racks.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Mounted outside the prayer-hall doors and above the shoe racks where people stop before going in, on the hall walls near the back rows, and at the women’s entrance. Masajid that broadcast or record the khutbah also place it near the minbar and the recording desk.
- Mount at 1.5–1.7 m, eye level at the door, so people see it while taking off their shoes.
- A4 fits most doors; use A3 at the main entrances of large jami masajid.
- In the West, 'Switch off' is sometimes read as fully powering down; if silent mode is all you want, add 'or set to silent' under the English line.
