A courtesy sign reminding everyone of the etiquette of quiet inside the mosque: no side conversations or raised voices between the adhan and iqamah, during the khutbah or while the Quran is being recited. It is phrased as a request rather than a ban, and the finger-on-lips pictogram carries the message to anyone who reads neither language.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Mounted on the prayer-hall walls near the entrances and along the back rows where chatter tends to start, in the corridor to the women’s hall, and by Quran circles and the library. It is most needed in large jami masajid and during Ramadan, when courtyards and corridors turn into waiting areas.
- Mount at 1.6–1.8 m, at eye level as people walk in, rather than high above the doors.
- A4 is enough inside the hall; use A3 at main entrances and in busy corridors.
- In family-friendly masajid in the West, add a gentle English line such as 'Children welcome, please keep voices low' instead of a stern warning.
