restroom sign
A direction sign pointing customers to the restroom and sparing staff the most frequently asked question in any restaurant or café. The generic man-and-woman pictogram is understood by visitors of every background before they read a word.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Fixed on the restroom door and at the start of the corridor leading to it in restaurants, cafés, large shops, petrol stations and rest stops. Municipalities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE require customer restrooms in restaurants and cafés above a certain size, and a clear sign on them is part of the municipal inspection.
- Fix it on the door at 1.5–1.7 m, and add an arrowed copy at the start of the corridor if the restroom is far from the seating area.
- A5 is enough on the door; use A4 for arrowed signs in corridors.
- Keep Arabic above English, and print two copies with 'Men' and 'Women' in the business-name band if the restrooms are separate.
