biological hazard sign
A warning (yellow) sign alerting people to infectious biological agents, samples or waste that can transmit disease. The yellow triangle with a black border is the ISO 7010 warning shape; the pictogram is the familiar biohazard trefoil of three crescents around a circle.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Fixed to the doors of medical and industrial analysis laboratories, sample rooms in hospitals, clinics and blood-donation centres, on clinical-waste and sharps containers and their storage rooms, in sewage pump rooms and treatment stations, and in food-plant waste rooms.
Regulation notes
Health ministries, municipalities and occupational-safety authorities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE expect biological-agent and clinical-waste areas to carry warning signage when laboratories and clinics are licensed and audited. In the UAE, the OSHAD Code of Practice 17.0 requires Arabic to sit above English on safety signs.
- Fix it to the laboratory or waste-room door at eye level (1.5–1.7 m), and on the container lid itself.
- A4 is enough for lab doors, fridges and containers; use A3 for clinical-waste collection rooms.
- Laminate it so it survives repeated disinfectant wipe-downs without the ink lifting.
