toxic material sign
A warning (yellow) sign alerting people to toxic substances that can cause severe poisoning or death if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through the skin. The yellow triangle with a black border is the ISO 7010 warning shape; the pictogram is a skull and crossbones.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Fixed to the doors of chemical, pesticide and fumigant stores, chlorine rooms at water-treatment plants and pools, analytical laboratories and electroplating shops, and on cabinets holding concentrated cleaning chemicals in restaurants and hotels. Municipality and Civil Defense inspectors look for it when stores are surveyed.
Regulation notes
Civil Defense and occupational-safety authorities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE expect toxic-substance storage to be identified with warning signage and access restricted as part of licensing for facilities that handle chemicals. In the UAE, the OSHAD Code of Practice 17.0 requires Arabic to sit above English on safety signs.
- Fix it to the store or locked cabinet door at eye level (1.5–1.7 m), not on the wall beside it.
- A4 is enough for cabinets and laboratory doors; use A3 on pesticide store and chlorine room doors.
- Print the poison-centre or emergency number in the organisation band at the bottom so responders do not lose time looking for it.
