drop hazard sign
A warning (yellow) sign alerting people to an edge, opening or change of level from which a person could fall to a lower floor. The yellow triangle with a black border is the ISO 7010 warning shape; the pictogram shows a person losing balance at a raised edge.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Used at loading-dock edges in warehouses, mezzanine and platform edges, roof edges, open excavations and trenches on construction sites, service ducts and light wells, and on scaffold platforms and work-at-height areas.
Regulation notes
Occupational-safety and Civil Defense authorities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE require edges and openings to be protected with suitable barriers together with warning signage, and unprotected edges are a recurring finding in construction-site inspections. In the UAE, the OSHAD Code of Practice 17.0 requires Arabic to sit above English on safety signs.
- Fix it to the guardrail or temporary fencing facing the direction of approach, at eye level (1.5–1.7 m).
- Use A3 on dock edges and excavations in open areas; A4 is enough inside warehouses and on mezzanines.
- The warning does not replace the barrier: fit a guardrail or a fixed cover over the opening and use the sign as an added alert.
