eyewash station sign
A safe-condition (green) sign marking an eyewash station for flushing the eyes immediately after a chemical splash or a foreign body. Green is the ISO 7010 safe-condition colour; the pictogram shows an eye with two water jets arcing into it.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Mounted above the station itself in laboratories, chemical stores, battery workshops, water-treatment plants, pump rooms and detergent-filling areas. The working rule is that the station is within about ten seconds of the hazard, with no obstructions or closed doors in the way.
Regulation notes
Occupational-safety rules and Civil Defense requirements in Saudi Arabia and the UAE require an immediate eye-flushing facility wherever corrosive or irritant substances are handled, and both the unit and its sign are checked at licensing or inspection. In the UAE, OSHAD Code of Practice 17.0 requires Arabic to appear above English on safety signs.
- Mount at 1.8–2.0 m above the station so it reads over benches and shelving.
- A4 suits laboratories; use A3 in chemical stores and treatment halls.
- Fix it directly above the unit and keep the route to it clear, the casualty will be moving with their eyes shut.
