fire alarm call point sign
A fire-equipment (red) sign marking a manual fire alarm call point, the break-glass unit anyone who discovers a fire presses to raise the alarm across the building. The red square is the ISO 7010 shape for fire-fighting equipment; the pictogram shows a call-point box with its round press button.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Mounted above every manual call point along escape routes, at stairway doors, final exits and floor entrances in shops, offices, hotels and factories. Civil Defense requires call points to be distributed along the escape route so no occupant is far from one, and each unit to be signed and visible.
Regulation notes
Manual call points and their signs are a core Civil Defense requirement for alarm systems in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and they are checked as part of alarm-system approval before a safety licence is issued or renewed. In the UAE, OSHAD Code of Practice 17.0 requires Arabic to appear above English on safety signs.
- Mount at 1.8–2.0 m, above the call point itself, which normally sits at 1.2–1.4 m.
- A4 suits corridors and offices; use A3 in production halls and warehouses.
- Fix it directly above the break-glass unit so whoever spots the fire finds the button without searching in the first panicked seconds.
