oxidizing substance sign
A warning (yellow) sign alerting people to oxidizing substances, which feed combustion and can make other materials burn fiercely even without a direct flame. The yellow triangle with a black border is the ISO 7010 warning shape; the pictogram is a flame above a circle.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Fixed to shelves and rooms storing peroxides, nitrates, chlorates, pool chemicals and fertilisers in chemical warehouses, factories and laboratories, and on oxygen-cylinder areas in workshops and medical facilities. It is expected wherever oxidizers are segregated from flammable stock.
Regulation notes
Civil Defense and occupational-safety authorities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE expect oxidizer storage areas to be identified with warning signage and kept separate from flammable materials when chemical warehouses are inspected. In the UAE, the OSHAD Code of Practice 17.0 requires Arabic to sit above English on safety signs.
- Fix it to the storage-room door and to the face of the dedicated shelf at eye level (1.5–1.7 m).
- A4 is enough for shelf faces and chemical cabinets; use A3 on chemical warehouse doors.
- Place the sign on the oxidizer rack well away from the flammables rack — physical segregation is the whole point of this warning.
