radioactive material sign
A warning (yellow) sign alerting people that radioactive material or a source of ionizing radiation is present. The yellow triangle with a black border is the ISO 7010 warning shape; the pictogram is the familiar three-blade radiation trefoil.
Where is it used and when is it required?
Fixed to radiology room doors in hospitals and clinics, industrial radiography (NDT) areas in factories and welding shops, sealed-source stores in laboratories, well-logging operations in oil and gas, and around controlled areas during site radiography. It is normally used together with barriers and warning lights.
Regulation notes
Radiation sources in Saudi Arabia and the UAE are licensed by the competent regulator, and operating conditions require controlled areas to be marked with visible warning signage that inspectors verify. In the UAE, the OSHAD Code of Practice 17.0 requires Arabic to sit above English on safety signs.
- Fix it to the room door or to the barrier at eye level (1.5–1.7 m), and repeat it on every entrance to the controlled area.
- Use A3 on radiology room doors and industrial radiography boundaries; A4 suits source cabinets and internal doors.
- Put extra signs on temporary barriers during site radiography and take them down as soon as the work ends, so the warning keeps its meaning.
