Where is it used and when is it required?
Required in arc welding bays and oxy-acetylene cutting areas in metalwork shops, at laser cutters and engravers in laboratories and fabrication shops, in UV curing rooms and water disinfection plant, and at melting furnaces and metal casting stations in factories.
Regulation notes
Civil Defense and occupational safety authorities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE expect welding and laser areas to be screened and marked with mandatory signage matched to the radiation level, as a condition of operating licences and hot-work permits. In the UAE, practice under the OSHAD Code of Practice 17.0 is for Arabic to sit above English on safety signs.
- Mount at the welding bay entrance or on the screening curtain at eye level (1.5–1.7 m), so it is read before the curtain is lifted.
- A4 on individual welding bays; A3 at the entrances to welding halls and laser rooms.
- State the required lens shade number in the organisation band under the sign — under-rated goggles give a sense of safety without the protection.
